Trail Seats – It’s Great to Take The Weight Off . . .

. . . After a Day Hiking The Trail

Of course, putting your feet up after a days hiking and backpacking is a very tempting thing to do, but do be warned, whilst there are a large selection of trail and camping seats with legs, who is realistically going to cart those around all day long, but a new breed of trail seat is actually at floor level, legless if you like, which is fantastic and comfortable (and a remarkable feat of engineering that you don’t simply tip over backwards) but you might find it difficult to prise yourself out of your trail seat when you want to stand up . . . hikers do so much at floor level, it does play havoc with your knees, it plays havoc with your hips and trying to stand up from these seats can be a near impossibility once your legs have seized up on day two. Crikey moses, that is possibly the longest sentence I’ve ever written, shall I go back and add a period or two, no, can’t be bothered, onward we go . . . now where was I?

Do you like the moving camping chair? It’s putting me off a bit actually, but even though it folds up into that small carrying bag it’s still not suitable for hiking and backpacking, I’ll show you something a bit more like it in a minute! You’d think it would get tired wouldn’t you . . . STOP IT!

Hiking & Backpacking Trail Seats

Trail seats which are suitable for hiking and backpacking fall into two separate categories . . . seat pads and trekking chairs. Some trekking lounger chairs are actually extremely comfortable, but you’ve guessed it, you’re still at ground level so ultimately you’ve got to try and stand up again.

    • Hiking Sit Pads – are the basic place to park your rear while you’re out backpacking, just a foam pad which you can sit on to protect your butt from the dirty, cold, damp ground.  They’re generally super light, durable, comfortable and squish quite small for packing in your backpack.
    • Insulated Inflatable Sit Pads – are like sit pads with that little extra class (and you’ll pay a few more bucks for them). They work on the same principle as the self inflating sleeping pads  but smaller, but still they’re lightweight and comfy and offer a nice bit of cushioning between a rock and your butt cheeks.
    • Trekker Chairs – are a really well thought out bit of backpacking gear, a sit pad with a back rest which doesn’t tip you over (well, not yet anyway), but they’re still lightweight and compact and offer the perfect seating solution to tired hikers everywhere (just so long as there’s somebody there to give you a tug when you want to stand up again).
    • Trekker Lounge Chairs – have taken the whole concept just one step further. Not only do you get the ultimate in comfort with a built in fleece and pillow sleeve, it also converts from a hiking seat to a sleeping pad and back again . . . two functions in one. Now why didn’t I think of that . . . .

How does he not go rolling down the rocks head first . . . somebody explain to me please, it just doesn’t seem possible!

Hey, that collection was designed for me. Now, who can I persuade to carry it in their backpack on our next overnight hiking trip? Do you think he’d notice?
