Munch a Snack From Your Pack Whilst Your Hiking the Track

How’s that for an opening line? Sometimes these things just come to me, I pluck them from thin air . . .

Hiking snacks are a very important part of your hiking goodies, they’re different from hiking energy bars, they’re simply snacks for snacking sake . . . to stop you from feeling peckish halfway along the trail. There are lots of different ideas for snacks which various hikers and backpackers like to nibble on . . . just like some people prefer candy bars to potato chips . . . it’s down to you. Let’s take a look at a few examples of traditional hiking snacks which you can buy from your camping equipment store, although the only limit really is your imagination.

Hiking Snack Bars are popular, they’re just so easy to transport and eat whenever the fancy takes you . . . simply unwrap it and chew . . . what good be easier than that? There are lots of different snack bars on the market which are great for popping into your backpack before you go on a hike, or alternatively (if you’re that way inclined) you can make your own.

Sounds like a well thought out trip, those hiking snacks are energy bars too, all those dried fruits and crushed nuts . . . and I love that hat! Watch out for him hiking across America, hope he has a good trip.

Some Hikers Snack on Jerky too, and why not, it’s tasty and can give you something to do with your mouth when you’re fed up of talking to your fellow hikers. Sorry dude, can’t talk, busy chewing some jerky. Some jerky is tough and chewy, some jerky is softer and more mushy, it’s available in lots of flavors (beef, turkey, tuna) but it’s all flavorsome, nutritious and lightweight so what more do you want from a hiking snack?

Hmmm, always double check that beef jerky really is beef jerky before you start to chew it on your hike!

Other Hiking snacks which are very popular (because they’re tasty, nutritious and just . . . . well, nice) are dried fruits, nuts or both. Trail mixes are available in many different guises, or you can make your own before you set off on your next hiking trip. 

I do think that they look very tasty, but dried apricots ought to carry some sort of warning . . . I don’t know if it’s just in our house but they’re definitely worse than beans and need to be avoided at all costs, I don’t care how tasty they are, or indeed good for you . . . it’s just not worth the risk if my son gets hold of them.
