Family Camping Stoves . . . .
Fit to Feed a Hungry Family
Camping is relaxing, well, that’s the whole point of it anyway, but there is nothing more stressful than a hungry family who have been exploring the great outdoors all day long and returned to base camp expecting something hot and tasty to sink their teeth into . . . . and not a Domino’s Pizza joint in sight! That’s why it’s important that you choose your family camping stove carefully in order to keep the adults stress levels at a manageable level.
(I know that the picture is of a barbecue, but the food sure looks tasty so I couldn’t resist it). Is that corn wrapped in bacon? It looks like it, what a fantastic idea . . . corn wrapped in bacon, mmmm, looks delicious but I’m not sure how it would work when it came to taking a bite . . .
So, now you know how to make ‘em . . . enjoy. I bet you didn’t think you were gonna’ get cooking tips on this page too did ya?
Modern family camping stoves are quite up to the job, well, most of them are anyway, and really do offer a home away from home cooking experience, well, that is if you’ve got a double gas burner at home anyway, it’ll be exactly the same for you. Right, what should you look for when you are choosing a family camping stove . . . which incidentally can be used when you’re not camping . . . how about a garden cook-out, they’re great for those too, or a trip to the beach . . . wow, what’s it called when you’re on a roll, yeah, I’m “cooking on gas” . . . sorry but sometimes I amaze myself.
Family Camping Stove Features to Look For
- Family camping stoves should have at least 2 separate gas burners, with individual adjustability. That way you can boil and simmer at the same time, or simmer and saute, saute and grill or grill and boil . . . you see, the possibilities are almost endless.
- Family camping stoves need to have plenty of space between the burners, after all, if you’ve got a hungry family to feed fresh from the great outdoors you’re gonna need some big cooking pots.
- Wind screens are an important feature of a family camping stove. Cooking outside is great, but you don’t have any control over the speed or direction of the wind, so the best idea is to try and screen your burners from it (you don’t want them blowing out do you, that’s dangerous and seriously prolongs the cooking time).
- Family camping stove legs – well, not all camping stoves have legs of their own, some are designed to sit on your camping table or other bit of camp furniture, but those family camping stoves which do have legs also need another feature . . . if they have adjustable legs it can make all the difference. You see, camping ground is not level very often, so it’s important that you have the ability to level out your camping stove with its own legs . . . one leg in a hole makes a wobbly camping stove, and a wobbly camping stove is a dangerous camping stove . . . so level it out.
- Family camping stoves need to be easy to set up, I know that family camping trips are generally spent in one location, but there’s enough other stuff to think about when you’re setting up camp (tents!!) without having to deal with something complicated and heavy before you can even warm your soup. Yep, easy to set up yet compact for transportability . . . two very important features of a good family camping stove.
So, before you buy your next family camping stove just think about all these things, and one other thing which you really need to think about . . . what do you generally cook whilst you’re camping. Would you get more use from a camping stove which has just one burner and a grill for a barbecue type experience? Do you have a family of burger munchers? Would two burners suit your purpose better? Would you prefer legs or are you quite happy being legless . . . the choice of a family camping stove is all up to you!
You get the idea? Now, it’s time to start thinking about what you’re gonna cook . . . .
Cheers dude . . .
