Casual Shorts . . . For Casual Camping Trips . . .
. . . And Serious Camping Trips Too
Casual shorts . . . I’m not really keen on the word “casual” . . . . to me it means the same as “sloppy” and “couldn’t care less”, but there’s nothing sloppy about casual hiking shorts, they’re well up to the job! Casual shorts means that you can wear them on days even when you’re not hiking, and not look out of place, but you see what I’m getting at don’t you? I hope so . . .
Even casual shorts have some very technical details, designed to be practical, comfortable, durable and make sunshine hiking even more enjoyable, however long your hiking day.
Some Features To Look For In Casual Hiking Shorts
- Hiking shorts need to be made from durable, rip proof and abrasion resistant fabric, whilst providing the wearer with an unimpeded range of motion for extra comfort when hiking or climbing.
- Hiking shorts need to have a water repellent coating . . . . I know that the rest of your legs might get wet, but if your shorts can repel the odd rain shower then it’ll stop you from getting sore and chaffed in your important places.
- Hiking shorts need to be quick drying, so that if they do get a little bit damp from a short rain shower they’ll soon dry off and normal comfort levels will soon be resumed.
- Hiking shorts need a little wind resistance . . . nobody wants the wind ripping through their rocks do they?
- Hiking shorts need pockets. Some of them might have zippers to keep important stuff safe, and a couple of drop-in hand pockets for easy access.
- Hiking shorts which are made from fabrics which protect against the harmful ultraviolet rays are great too . . . you’ll have to put sunscreen on your lower legs but the upper part of your legs will be taken care of.
- Hiking shorts need to fit properly. Plenty of room for maneuver around the crotch area, not too tight around the waist to cut your circulation . . . not too loose that they’ll fall down as soon as you take your hands out of your pockets. Use your common sense!
So you see, there’s nothing casual or sloppy about the perfect pair of casual shorts for hiking and climbing.
