Gaiters for Camping
Gaiters are a must for many hiking adventures, especially those which involve (or are likely to involve) hiking or cross country skiing across snow fields.
That’s better. You see, spelling really is important. Now, where was I . . . .
Winter Gaiters are essential in snowy conditions to keep the snow out of your hiking boots. What should you look for when buying a new pair of gaiters for a snowy hiking adventure?
- Nylon uppers need to be waterproof yet breathable, with the possibility of lower panels lined with more fabrics.
- A good fit over many different types and sizes of hiking or skiing boots.
- Tapered ankles ensuring a nice snug fit around the boot.
Summer gaiters have their place in your hiking wardrobe too . . . protecting you from sand and debris whenever you run, hike or trek in the full heat of summer. These are obviously designed to be more lightweight than the winter gaiters, and need to fit snugly over light hiking boots or trail running shoes. The fabric is often treated so ensure UPF sun protection to shield the skin from the harmful ultraviolet rays.
Hey, I’m not the only one who gets my gaiters, gators and crocodiles mixed up!
