Camping, hiking and back packing has been a favorite recreational activity for very many years. What better way is there to expand the mind, extend your muscles and blow away the cobwebs from modern day living? Not surprisingly, there are now thousands of books available for hiking and camping enthusiasts . . . written by those who have “been there, hiked that and got the blisters” . . . or maybe those who haven’t, but have read a different book about it.

Some hikers are always on the look out for new hikes and experiences . . . although that isn’t entirely necessary, I can honestly say that even after I’ve walked the same trail for more than a dozen times, each and every journey along that trail has been a unique experience . . . different sights, different smells, different weather, different light, different memories.

For anyone who is looking for an entirely new hiking experience, why not search through the library of hiking and camping books to find your ideal destination. The wise hiker knows that you should pre-plan every hike, especially if you’ll be embarking on a hiking tour in unfamiliar territory. You need to know what to expect so that you can prepare, ensuring added safety and comfort for yourself and your hiking buddies.

Hikers are, on the whole, a friendly bunch, which some do find rather surprising . . . after all, these back packers and hikers choose to spend their free time away from civilization, yet they’re quite happy to chat to fellow hikers along the trail and give out helpful bits of advice.

Hiking and Camping Reviews

Even if you don’t feel the need to read a whole book about a specific hiking trail or mountain path, there are some great review sites on the Internet where fellow hikers will happily discuss their hikes . . . what was particularly memorable (maybe getting up early to witness the sunrise on the summit), what to watch out for (maybe the stream was a rushing torrent of waist deep water) and anything else that springs to mind about hiking in a particular location.  These reviews are written by real hikers (you might even recognize some of their trail names), about real hikes and can offer some real help.
