Camping Cookware
. . . or What Do Cooks Wear For Camping?
Wrong type of wear Bozo, it says cookware not cookwear.
Yeah yeah, she wasn’t even camping . . . you weren’t expecting that though were you. Now that I’ve caught your attention, let’s look at COOKWARE for camping and hiking.
Camping and Hiking Cookware
Campers do have a little more scope in the kitchen than do hikers, after all, you don’t exactly want to be carrying a dutch oven around with you in your backpack do you (although car campers do have a great selection to choose from). Let’s take a look at what types of cookware are available for your next hiking or family camping trip.
- Camping Cooksets – the size of your cookset depends on the size of your camping party, but there are plenty to choose from. There are lightweight ones for hikers which all fit neatly inside each other with mugs, bowls, spoons, forks, cooking pot . . . perfect.
- Camp Cooking Pots – if you prefer, of course, you can buy a terrific cooking pot (size to suit the number of hungry mouths you have to feed) all with handles and lids. Non-stick ones are definitely the best bet.
- Dutch Oven Cooking Pots for Camping – now we’re talking, although cast iron is great for dutch ovens but not for hikers . . . There’s a great variety of styles to choose from, I like the ones with stubby legs for sitting over the hot coals . . .
- Camping Griddles – griddling is an essential part of camp life (well, it is at our
housetent anyway) and fortunately there’s a good variety of camping griddles to choose from. Flat ones, ridged ones, ones with handles! - Frying Pans – I think you’ve probably gathered by now that a frying pan is an absolutely essential piece of camping equipment . . . 10 fat sausages sizzling in a pan, all of a sudden, one went BANG! 9 fat sausages . . . yes, we get it thank you!
- Pot Lifters – don’t forget that pot handles get hot when you’re cooking over a camp fire, so a pot lifter is another essential bit of kit for your camping trip.
- Campfire Cooking – if you are lucky enough to be in a place where you’re permitted to light a camp fire to cook with, then you could probably do with a few other essentials too. Long handled toasting forks, roasting sticks, you need something to keep you from singeing the hair on your arms whilst you’re toasting marshmallows, and how about a popcorn popper with an extra long handle. Now we’re talking.
A STICK!!! We don’t need a dirty old STICK . . . We’ve got an extending campfire fork
That first dish sure looks tasty, worth hiking back to camp double quick for I should say . . . and now we all know the secret fried potatoes recipe . . . poor bloke, we all know his secrets now!
Ooops, who do you think is copying who . . . seems like this secret fried potato recipe is pretty well known after all! So is it a big pile of love or a little piece of heaven?
